IPL 2024: Delhi Capitals (DC) announces replacement for Harry Brook

Delhi Capitals (DC) have made a significant announcement regarding the ongoing 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), revealing the replacement of their star player Harry Brook. Brook, who was signed by the Capitals for INR 4 crore, has withdrawn from the tournament citing personal reasons.

Harry Brook’s emotional withdrawal

The decision of Brook’s withdrawal was initially met with surprise and speculation, as the cricketer cited personal reasons without further elaboration. However, in an emotional statement shared on his Instagram account, Brook disclosed the precise rationale behind his sudden decision. He revealed the heartbreaking news of the recent loss of his grandmother, who played a pivotal role in shaping his life and cricketing career. Brook expressed his deep connection with his grandmother, highlighting her influence on his upbringing and passion for cricket. He reminisced about the cherished moments spent with her and acknowledged her role in his achievements.

Replacement announcement

In light of Brook’s withdrawal, Delhi Capitals swiftly moved to fill the void by roping in South African fast bowler Lizaad Williams as his replacement. Williams, who has represented South Africa in two Tests, four One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and 11 T20 Internationals since his international debut in 2021, joins the Capitals at his base price of INR 50 lakhs.

“Lizaad Williams, the South African fast bowler, has been signed by the Delhi Capitals as a replacement for England’s Harry Brook for the remainder of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Since making his international debut in 2021, Williams has represented South Africa in two Tests, four One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 11 T20 Internationals. He joins Delhi Capitals at his base price of INR 50 lakhs,” read the IPL media advisory.
