During the 64th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Delhi Capitals (DC) faced off against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Nicholas Pooran‘s formidable performance with the bat for LSG posed a challenge for DC, necessitating a remarkable effort to dismiss him.

Axar Patel stepped up to the occasion for DC. His outstanding catch not only demonstrated his versatility as a player but also concluded Pooran’s innings, leading to a significant momentum swing in favour of the Capitals.

Pooran, making solid contact and guiding the ball towards the cover region, appeared to have a clear path to the boundary until Axar disrupted the trajectory with a remarkable dive to his right, snatching the ball mid-air. Pooran’s exit, following his explosive innings of 61 runs from 27 balls, including six boundaries and four maximums, dealt a significant setback to LSG’s hopes.

Delhi Capitals defeated Lucknow Super Giants

After being put in to bat first, DC amassed a formidable total of 208/4 within the 20 overs. Abishek Porel contributed a brilliant half-century, scoring 58 runs off 33 balls. Tristan Stubbs showcased a fiery innings, hitting 57 runs in just 25 balls with a striking rate of 228, including 3 boundaries and 4 massive sixes. Ravi Bishnoi bowled impressively for LSG, conceding only 26 runs and taking 1 wicket for his team.

In response, LSG had a shaky start, losing 5 wickets with just 71 runs on the board in 7 overs. Although Pooran provided some hope for the team, his dismissal dashed their chances. Arshad Khan impressed with the bat, scoring 58 runs off 33 balls, but it wasn’t enough for a victory as LSG fell short of the target by 19 runs.
