Asia Cup 2023 Final: Five records that can be broken in Today’s India vs Sri Lanka Match

India (IND) and Sri Lanka (SL) are all set to lock horns in the final of the Asia Cup 2023 on Sunday, September 17 at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. The two teams have been the most consistent sides in the 16th edition of the continental tournament and will bring their ‘A game’ to the fore in the summit clash to have their hands on the coveted title.

Notably, Sri Lanka are the defending champions of the Asia Cup having won the tournament in 2022 contested in the T20 format. The Lankan lions are also the second most successful team in the history of the tournament having six titles to their name while India are the most successful team having seven titles to their name.

Hence, the co-hosts will look to level India’s dominance by winning the final and defend their title successfully. On the other hand, the Men-In-Blue will look to win the tournament and go into the ODI World Cup 2023 high on confidence. As both sides prepare themselves for the summit clash there are several records which might get broken in the big game. 1. Rohit Sharma 33 runs away from becoming  India’s highest run scorer in Asia Cup ODIs

Indian captain Rohit Sharma is counted among the greatest white-ball batters in the world. The opening batter finds himself on the verge of another landmark as he needs 61 runs to become the first Indian batter to score 1000 runs in Asia Cup ODIs. The 36-year-old also needs 33 runs to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s tally to become leading run-scorer for India in Asia Cup ODIs.

2. Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka on the verge of a unique format

Dasun Shanaka has been phenomenal while captaining his side this year as he first led his team to 13 consecutive wins in ODI format. The 32-year-old inspired Sri Lanka to lift teh Asia Cup 2022 format against all the odds and is just one step away from successfully defending his title. If he manages to do that, Shanaka will become the first captain to win consecutive Asia Cups in both the formats.

3. Rohit Sharma one fifty away from leaving behind Arjuna Ranatunga

Rohit Sharma (6) needs one 50+ score to surpass Arjuna Ranatunga (6) for most 50+ scores as captain in Asia Cup ODI. Rohit will also surpass Ranatunga to register the most half-centuries as a captain in ODI format of Asia Cup.

4. Kusal Mendis 93 runs away from surpassing Kumar Sangakkara

Kusal Mendis (253) needs 93 runs to surpass Kumar Sangakkara (345) to achieve the feat of most runs scored by wicket-keeper in single Asia Cup ODI edition.

5. Rohit Sharma to play fifth Asia Cup final

Indian skipper will also become the first Indian player to play fifth Asia Cup final.
