The 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) final will witness the clash between four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 28. This is Gujarat’s second consecutive final qualification in the lucrative league.
The Hardik Pandya-led side booked its final berth after defeating five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 2 on Friday, May 26 in Ahmedabad. After batting first, GT set a 234-run target for Mumbai, courtesy of Shubman Gill’s 60-ball 129 runs. GT then restricted MI to 171 runs, thanks to Mohit Sharma’s outstanding bowling spell.
Speaking about the IPL 2023 finalists, both GT and CSK have met twice this season- once in the opening encounter and then in Qualifier 1. Gujarat defeated CSK by five wickets in the first IPL 2023 match in Ahmedabad. CSK, on the other hand, outplayed GT by 15 runs in Qualifier 1 and advanced to the final.
Here are three bowlers to watch out for from Gujarat Titans leading into the IPL:
Mohammed Shami
India pacer Mohammed Shami has been one of the standout performers for Gujarat this season. He currently leads the IPL 2023 Purple Cap list, with 28 wickets in 16 matches at an economy of 7.95. In Qualifier 2, he picked up two crucial wickets, dismissing MI openers Rohit Sharma and Nehal Wadhera.
Rashid Khan
Rashid Khan has been outstanding for the defending champions so far in the ongoing IPL season. He has picked up 27 wickets from 16 matches at an economy of 7.93 and currently sits in second place in the IPL 2023 Purple Cap list. In GT’s previous encounter, he picked up two wickets, removing Tilak Varma and Tim David.
Mohit Sharma
Mohit was suffering from a back issue and was out of an IPL contract for the last two years. He was instrumental for GT in Qualifier 2, finishing with figures of 5/10 in his 2.2-over spell. After Shami and Rashid, he is the third-highest wicket-taker this season, with 24 from 13 matches at an economy of 7.89.
