After absolutely decimating Lucknow Super Giants in their last match, five-time winners Mumbai Indians will be taking on defending champions Gujarat Titans for a spot in the finale. When it comes to the home team, they have played some brilliant cricket throughout the course of the season but failed to deliver against Chennai Super Kings in the last match. Their bowling looks more or less sorted but middle order batters haven’t been able to deliver at times.
Skipper Hardik Pandya has been average while David Miller’s form is a matter of concern. Shubman Gill and Vijay Shakar have been the brightest stars in the team as the opener has scored 722 runs in 15 matches so far and with that, he is currently second in the IPL Orange Cap race. Vijay too has been consistent so far but others will have to step up in the high-voltage clash.
Rashid Khan meanwhile has once again been the go-to bowler for Gujarat. The Afghan spinner has picked up 25 wickets in 15 matches so far and with that, he is second in the IPL Purple Cap race. He has also contributed massively with the bat and that can come in handy against MI. When it comes to pacers, Mohammed Shami is currently the leading wicket-taker of the season while Mohit Sharma has been sensational, to say the least.
Coming to MI, the Rohit Sharma-led side has played some brilliant cricket in the last few matches. Suryakumar Yadav and Cameron Green have done very well with the bat while Akash Madhwal has proved to be MI’s biggest strength with the ball. In the absence of Jofra Archer and Jasprit Bumrah, there are concerns regarding the bowling unit but the way Madhwal has played so far, he can definitely prove to be a future star. Meanwhile, Piyush Chawla too has done well and will be key for the franchise in Qualifier 2.
