In the glitzy world of the Indian Premier League (IPL), where million-dollar deals and extravagant bids dominate headlines, there’s often a darker side to the game that goes unnoticed. Recently, former Indian cricketer S. Sreesanth shed light on one such issue, revealing the unpaid dues owed to players by the now-defunct IPL franchise, Kochi Tuskers Kerala.
Renowned stars didn’t get their due: Sreesanth
In a candid revelation, Sreesanth disclosed that several cricketers, including renowned names like Muttiah Muralitharan and Mahela Jayawardene, have yet to receive their rightful payments from the franchise. Despite repeated assurances and promises, the players have been left in limbo, struggling to recover the money owed to them.
“They have to pay a lot of money. You should get Muralitharan sir (Muttiah Muralitharan), you should get Mahela (Mahela Jayawardene) and in your show they will only tell you no one has got (money),” claimed Sreesanth in The Ranveer Show Podcast.

Sreesanth requests to get the money with interest
Sreesanth also highlighted the abrupt end to Kochi Tuskers’ stint in the cash-rich league. Amidst the turmoil and uncertainty surrounding the franchise, the players found themselves bearing the brunt of the financial fallout. For individuals like Sreesanth, who have dedicated their lives to the game, such injustices cut deep, casting a shadow over their achievements and contributions to the sport.
“Please guys, BCCI has literally paid you, I think. Please pay us anyway whenever you’re paying 18% interest every year. The team was supposed to be three years the team got terminated in the first year I think no one has spoken about it,” Sreesanth added.
The revelation by Sreesanth underscores the need for greater transparency and accountability in the administration of IPL franchises. While the league has undoubtedly brought unprecedented success and prosperity to Indian cricket, it’s essential not to overlook the human cost behind the glitz and glamour.
