The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah said that the board had taken steps to ensure that the state units employ trainers for strength and conditioning and create teams for sports science and sports medicine. Notably, the decision was made during BCCI’s Special General Meeting (SGM), which took place in Ahmedabad on Saturday, May 27.

Shah pointed out the significance of the initiative in addressing players’ injury concerns and said that each state association would be in charge of selecting a strength and conditioning coach and creating a sports science and sports medicine team. He also said that a panel from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) would evaluate aspirants to ensure the selection of qualified people.

“To address injury concerns of players, we have created a structure where every state association will appoint a strength and conditioning coach and a sport science and sports medicine team. The candidates will be interviewed by the NCA panel,” Jay Shah said.

We may have a new women’s team head coach before the Bangladesh series: Shah

Shah also stated that the shortlist for the women’s team head coach had been completed and that the CAC (Cricket Advisory Committee) would soon make a decision. He added that a head coach for the India women’s team could be selected prior to their forthcoming limited-overs tour to Bangladesh in July, which will include three ODIs and three T20Is.

“The shortlist for the women’s team head coach has already been done. The CAC will meet and decide accordingly. We may have a new women’s team head coach before the Bangladesh series,” Shah said.

Shah further confirmed that the second edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will be held before March 2024.

“We will have a discussion with the broadcaster and decide a window. We will be looking at a window for organising the next edition of the Women’s Premier League before March 2024,” he added.
