India‘s fast bowler Akash Deep made an immediate impact in the second Test against Bangladesh, claiming two crucial wickets in quick succession to put the visitors on the back foot at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, India’s decision was vindicated by Deep’s brilliant spell of fast bowling. The 27-year-old right-arm pacer struck in the third delivery of his first over, removing opener Zakir Hasan for a duck.
Akash Deep dismisses Zakir Hasan with the help of Yashasvi Jaiswal
Bowling a good-length delivery that angled into the left-hander, Deep induced an outside edge from Zakir Hasan‘s bat. The ball flew to the right of gully, where Yashasvi Jaiswal dived forward and to his right to take a stunning low catch. The on-field umpires referred the decision to the third umpire to confirm the legality of the catch, and replays showed that Jaiswal had taken it cleanly with his hands underneath the ball.

Bangladesh struggle in challenging conditions
Bangladesh’s openers Hasan and Shadman Islam had started cautiously, taking the team to 26/0 before Deep’s double strike. Shadman, who was batting positively, also fell to Deep, caught behind for 12, as Bangladesh slipped to 29/2. The visitors now face a challenging task to rebuild their innings on a pitch that is expected to assist the seamers initially. India, on the other hand, will look to capitalize on their early breakthroughs and put pressure on the Bangladesh middle order.
Deep’s impressive start to the second Test has once again highlighted his potential as a future star for India. His ability to swing the ball both ways and generate pace has made him a valuable asset in the Indian pace attack. With his twin strikes, Deep has put India firmly in control of the match and will be looking to continue his good form throughout the Test.
