With the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 scheduled to begin on March 31, fans are buzzing with excitement as the world’s biggest T20 league returns to action once again. However, with the beginning of the IPL 2023 comes a packed schedule for every player.

Looking at the hectic schedule, BCCI is reportedly worried about the fitness of the Indian contracted bowlers in the competition. With a game almost every day, the BCCI has told every IPL franchise to not overuse the Indian bowlers as fatigue and injury threats loom over the national team ahead of the World Test Championship final and the ODI World Cup that is scheduled for the latter stages of 2023.

“Franchises have been told that the Indian team bowlers should be especially used with caution. IPL teams should not over bowl them in the nets. They can focus more on strengthening and training. Players can do fielding drills, but until the first week of May, franchises shouldn’t push them. After May’s first week, those players who are in contention can slowly increase their bowling time in the nets. The BCCI will get in touch with all franchises again,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

With the IPL 2023 right around the corner, many Indian-contracted bowlers will be taking part in the competition. The likes of Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin, Deepak Chahar, and many more could be key for India in the upcoming matches, and the BCCI is making sure that they rule out any more injury problems.

With many injuries already plaguing the side, it could prove to be a beneficial decision for the governing body to be extra careful ahead of the start of the IPL. Following the end of the tournament, team India will take on Australia in the WTC final, which is scheduled to take place from June 7, 2023.
