The Indian team has been in superb form at the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, led by Rohit Sharma. The Men in Blue have played eight games in the tournament so far and have registered brilliant wins in every clash. As the first team to qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament, the Indian team is a heavy favourite for the title.
Leading from the front, Rohit Sharma’s sensational leadership in the World Cup has garnered attention from several pundits, who have lauded him for his performances and leadership qualities on the field. Team India’s head coach, Rahul Dravid, was of a similar opinion as well. Coming forward to heap praise on Rohit, Dravid opined that it has been a pleasure to see Rohit Sharma perform. Branding the veteran opener as someone who has the respect of the entire team.
“His captaincy has been terrific for a long time. He is someone who has the respect of the team and the coaching staff. It’s been a pleasure to see him operate the way he has. I think he is truly someone who deserves all the success that he has been getting, and hopefully, it may continue,” Dravid was quoted as saying by IndiaToday.
He has been fantastic with his batting: Dravid
Furthermore, Rahul Dravid also stated Rohit Sharma’s importance during several run chases at the ODI World Cup 2023. Dravid stated that some of the games were not easy in the second innings, but through his excellent knocks in the top order, the skipper made it easier on the remaining batters.
“In the end, it actually looked easy, but on reflection, as a coaching staff when we went back and looked at it, we realised the importance of his innings in games like that. It has certainly made it easier for guys who have followed,” Dravid said.
“He has been fantastic with his batting and the leadership that he has shown in taking on the game and in leading from the front. We have talked about playing the game in a particular way; you can’t do that unless your leader really buys in and actually shows by example,” he added.
