In a commanding display of batting, Pakistan Women secured a decisive 9-wicket victory over Nepal Women in the Group A match of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 at Dambulla on Sunday (July 21). Set a target of 109, Pakistan achieved their goal in just 11.5 overs, powered by exceptional performances from Gull Feroza and Muneeba Ali. Feroza’s explosive 57 off 35 balls and Ali’s unbeaten 46 off 34 balls anchored Pakistan’s chase, ensuring a comfortable win and demonstrating their dominance in the tournament.

Nepal Women’s struggles: Battling to a modest total

Nepal faced significant challenges throughout their innings, ultimately posting a total of 108/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Their innings faltered from the start with the early dismissal of Samjhana Khadka for just 4 runs. Sita Rana Magar provided a brief period of stability with a patient 26 off 30 balls, but crucial contributions were lacking from other key players, including captain Indu Barma and Kabita Kunwar, who were dismissed for low scores. Puja Mahato’s 25 off 32 balls and Kabita Joshi’s late surge, scoring 31 not out off 23 balls, were instrumental in pushing Nepal’s total to a somewhat competitive figure, but it proved insufficient against Pakistan’s formidable chase.

Nepal are probably 10-15 runs because they were 29-1 in 4 overs and managed to get only 5 runs in the next 4 overs.

Despite having as many as 10 batters in the line up. Intent was not there in the middle. Thanks to mainly Kabita Joshi (31*), we got close to 108-6 in the end.
