Team India is all set to kick off their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign against Ireland at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Wednesday (June 5). This will be India’s first international game in the T20 format since their win in the home series against Afghanistan earlier this year. In anticipation of the match, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar shared his insights on the likely playing XI that captain Rohit Sharma might pick for the encounter against Ireland.

Speaking to Star Sports, Gavaskar suggested a formidable opening pair with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. This choice emphasizes a power-packed start with two of India’s most experienced and successful batter, setting a strong foundation for the innings. A notable surprise in Gavaskar’s lineup is Yashasvi Jaiswal at No. 3. Traditionally an opener for India and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Jaiswal has the task of adapting to a new role. The middle order, featuring Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya, combines explosive hitting with match-winning capabilities.
