After an eventful stint in 2021, Harmanpreet Kaur is all set to feature in the upcoming edition of the blistering 100-ball tournament called ‘The Hundred’. In the players’ draft held on March 23, the Punjab-born cricketer was signed by Trent Rockets.

Kaur had played the inaugural season of the league with Manchester Originals, who had an average season as they finished fifth in the eight-team tournament with three wins from eight matches. In the next season, Kaur had to bear the brunt as she was released by the team to vacate an overseas slot. Kaur then missed the 2022 season of the tournament and will now look to make the most out of the upcoming edition.

Trent Rockets women had earlier retained star English all-rounders Nat Sciver-Brunt, Katherine Sciver-Brunt and Bryony Smith, along with Australian all-rounder Alana King.

In the players’ draft, Rockets built up on the base provided by the retained players and managed to amass a healthy core meticulously designed with handpicked players from across the globe. Apart from Kaur, Rockets managed to acquire the services of prolific South African batter Lizelle Lee and England’s bowling duo of Kirstie Gordon and Grace Potts.

Each team is allowed to form a squad with a maximum strength of 15 players of whom, only three can be overseas cricketers. With Harmanpreet Kaur’s acquisition, Rockets exhausted their share of the overseas quota, with Lee and King being the other two non-English cricketers in the ranks.

Third edition of the tournament will commence on August 1

The players’ draft held on March 23 set the tone for the main tournament to follow as the excitement regarding the third edition of the tournament has already started building up. The tournament is supposed to commence on August 1 with a double-header involving Trent Rockets and Southern Brave.

The action will then continue through a course of 27 days before finally culminating on August 27 with the finals scheduled to be played at the iconic Lord’s.

Notably, this was the first time that a women’s draft was held in order to pick up players for the upcoming league. The teams were also given the option to use ‘Right to Match’ cards to reserve a player who had played for the seam team in the previous season.
