The Kerala Cricket League (KCL) 2024 kicked off with a bang as fans in Thiruvananthapuram witnessed an explosive display of power-hitting from Mohammed Azharuddeen in a first match between Thrissur Titans and Alleppey Ripples

Mohammed Azharuddeen guides Alleppey Ripples to victory 

The match, held at the KCL venue in Thiruvananthapuram, saw the Thrissur Titans take the field first after winning the toss. They posted a competitive total of 161 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. The highlight of their innings was Akshay Manohar‘s composed knock of 57 runs off 44 balls, anchoring the Titans’ innings amid a steady fall of wickets. On the bowling front for the Ripples, Anand Joseph was the standout performer, claiming 3 wickets in his four-over spell and playing a crucial role in restricting the Titans to 161.

In response, Alleppey Ripples faced an uphill task, needing 162 runs to win. Azharuddeen, leading from the front, played an explosive innings that completely overshadowed the Thrissur Titans’ efforts. Azharuddeen smashed his way to 92 runs off just 47 deliveries, unleashing an array of powerful shots that included 9 towering sixes and 3 fours. With a blistering strike rate of 195.74, his aggressive innings left the Titans’ bowlers helpless as they struggled to contain his destructive batting.

Despite losing five wickets, the Ripples comfortably chased down the target in the 19th over, finishing with 163/5. Azharuddeen’s relentless assault on the opposition bowlers was the centerpiece of the chase, helping his team clinch a five-wicket victory with an over to spare.

For his outstanding knock, which single-handedly tilted the game in favor of Alleppey Ripples, Azharuddeen was deservedly named Player of the Match.
