In an exhilarating moment during the first Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, veteran Bangladeshi batsman Mushfiqur Rahim narrowly missed achieving a well-deserved double century, falling short by 9 runs after being dismissed by Pakistan’s fast bowler Mohammad Ali.

Mushfiqur Rahim departs for 191

Rahim played a crucial role in Bangladesh’s remarkable comeback, and his wicket fell just as he appeared ready to secure a stunning double ton. This pivotal moment took place in the 157th over of Bangladesh’s innings, where they had already exceeded Pakistan’s first-innings total of 448 runs.

As Rahim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz built a significant seventh-wicket partnership that frustrated the Pakistani bowlers, captain Shan Masood sought a breakthrough by bringing Mohammad Ali into the attack.

Ali’s introduction proved effective; he bowled a perfect delivery that pitched at the right length and swung back into Rahim from outside the off stump. Attempting a risky drive, Rahim misjudged the bounce, resulting in an edge that was easily caught by wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan, who celebrated the crucial wicket with fervour.

Meanwhile, former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam ran towards the bowler like a kid.

Bangladesh takes a crucial lead in the first innings

Despite Rahim’s dismissal, Bangladesh posted a formidable total of 565 runs, bolstered by his outstanding innings and significant contributions from Shadman Islam, Mominul Haque, Litton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz. This performance granted Bangladesh a commanding 117-run lead, setting the stage for an exciting challenge for Pakistan in their second innings, as the visitors look to capitalize on their strong position in the match.

At stumps, Pakistan were 23/1 as they lost the wicket of last innings half-centurion Saim Ayub for just one run.
