The ongoing first Test between India and New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru saw some thrilling cricketing action on Day 3. India, striving to regain control of the match, had their hopes lifted when star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja produced a mesmerizing delivery to dismiss New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips. Jadeja’s brilliance provided a crucial breakthrough for the Indian side, but the visitors fought back valiantly to seize the advantage.

Ravindra Jadeja’s masterclass dismisses Glenn Phillips

Indian all-rounder Jadeja claimed his second wicket of the innings with a fantastic delivery that rattled Phillips’ stumps. The dismissal was a testament to Jadeja’s sharp bowling skills, as he outfoxed Phillips with a ball that skidded off the surface and breached the batter’s defense.

The key moment unfolded on the third ball of the 63rd over. Jadeja pitched it on a length around the middle stump, and the ball skidded through as Phillips went on the back foot to block. The delivery barely missed the inside edge, glanced off the back pad, and cannoned into the stumps, leaving the New Zealand batter stunned.

India’s early success on Day 3

New Zealand began the third day with their score at 180/3, with Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell holding the fort. India had a positive start as fast bowler Mohammed Siraj quickly got rid of the overnight batter, Mitchell, for 18. Soon after, Jasprit Bumrah joined the act, scalping his first wicket by dismissing New Zealand’s wicketkeeper Tom Blundell for just 5 runs.

Jadeja added to the pressure with his spin, picking up two crucial scalps — Phillips (14) and Matt Henry (8) — as India looked to turn the tide in their favor.

Rachin Ravindra and Tim Southee dominate India

Despite India’s promising start, New Zealand mounted a strong counterattack led by Ravindra and Tim Southee. The pair put up a resilient partnership, showing composure against the Indian bowlers and capitalizing on every loose delivery.

In a thrilling display, the duo hammered 58 runs in the last 4 overs before the lunch break. Ravindra’s impressive batting helped him notch up a stylish century, combining solid defense with aggressive strokeplay. By lunch, New Zealand had moved to 345/7, leading by 299 runs, putting themselves in a commanding position and leaving India with a daunting task ahead.
