The first Test match between India and New Zealand at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium faced an unfortunate halt on its opening day due to persistent heavy rain. However, the downpour did little to dampen the spirits of enthusiastic fans who gathered in large numbers to witness the spectacle of live cricket. The highlight of the day came when Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli made an appearance, much to the delight of the crowd.

Virat Kohli’s appearance sparks excitement

Despite Day 1 being called off without even the toss taking place, the sight of Kohli walking on the ground alongside teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal brought an electrifying buzz to the stadium. Both players were seen in their cricket kits, shielded by umbrellas held by team staff, as they strolled across the wet pitch. As Kohli approached, fans erupted in cheers, chanting “Kohli! Kohli!” in unison, reflecting the deep-rooted connection the star player has with both the stadium and the city of Bengaluru.

Kohli’s deep connection with Bengaluru

Kohli’s relationship with the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is particularly significant; he has represented the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008. As a former captain of RCB, Kohli holds the record for the most runs in IPL history, amassing a staggering 8,004 runs over 252 matches. He also boasts eight centuries, the most by any player in the tournament, four of which were scored at this very venue, along with 55 half-centuries throughout his illustrious career.

Bengaluru has always held a special place in Kohli’s heart, as he often refers to the city as his “second home.” His emotional bond with the city and its fans was palpable in the air, as supporters waved flags and clapped enthusiastically, eager to catch a glimpse of their idol.
