Ellyse Perry delivered one of the finest innings of her decorated T20 career, powering the Sydney Sixers into the WBBL|11 playoffs with a heart-stopping one-run victory over Adelaide Strikers at North Sydney Oval on Sunday.
Ellyse Perry produces career-best WBBL knock against Adelaide Strikers
In a virtual knockout for a playoffs berth, Perry’s breathtaking 111 off 71 balls set up a tense finish as the Sixers booked their first postseason appearance in three years.
Batting first in a must-win encounter, the Sixers put up 173/4, thanks entirely to Perry’s masterclass at the top. The Australian superstar smashed 16 fours and three sixes, controlling the innings from the outset and ensuring Sixers held the initiative in a high-pressure clash.

Despite Perry’s brilliance, Adelaide Strikers pushed the match deep into the final over. Bridget Patterson ignited the chase with a blistering 30-ball half-century, lifting the Strikers from a slow start to within striking distance of an incredible comeback victory.
The Strikers needed 18 off the final over, and Patterson immediately put Ashleigh Gardner under pressure with two fours and a six, turning the contest into a nail-biter. After taking a single, she left Amanda-Jade Wellington with the task of finishing the chase. Gardner bowled Wellington, leaving the equation at three runs required off the final ball for victory.
A desperate attempt by Sophie Ecclestone to steal a second run and force a Super Over was shut down by Alyssa Healy’s sharp run-out, sealing Sixers’ dramatic win and eliminating the Strikers from playoff contention.
With just one-run victory, the Sixers finishd the league stage in second place, placing themselves a win away from the WBBL|11 final on December 13 at Bellerive Oval. They will host the winner of the knockout between Perth Scorchers (3rd) and Melbourne Stars (4th).

Perry survives scares before reaching a historic third WBBL century
Named Player of the Match, Perry needed composure and a slice of luck to get to her landmark hundred. On 65, she offered a catch only for replays to confirm bowler Tahlia McGrath had overstepped. Later on 91, she deflected a delivery from Wellington onto her stumps, but the bails refused to budge – a moment that brought gasps from the crowd.
Perry eventually fell in the final over, chipping Eleanor Larosa to deep cover, ending a sensational knock that set the perfect platform for Sixers in a must-win match.
Larosa was Adelaide’s standout bowler, claiming 3 wickets in the final over of the innings – dismissing Sophia Dunkley (54 off 54), Perry, and Alyssa Healy – after Dunkley and Perry had shared a massive 141-run opening stand.
