ODI World Cup – 3 SA players to watch out for in 2nd semi-final

Nov 16, 2023

Before the world moves to Ahmedabad for the ultimate clash, two formidable teams in the tournament will be seen in action, as South Africa engage in a face-off against Australia. The game will be played at the iconic Eden Garden in Kolkata. The winning team will see itself into the grand finale at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19. However, all depends on how the players perform when it matters the most.

With that said, let us have a look at which players from the Temba Bavuma-led side will be in focus when they take on the might Aussies.

1. Quinton de Kock – Quinton de Kock is playing his last World Cup, as he is set to retire from the 50-over format after the conclusion of the 2023 edition of the tournament. The stylist southpaw has been knocking the ball well so far, having scored 591 runs from nine innings at an average of 65.66. This includes four centuries and 21 sixes, which shows that the keeper-batter is enjoying his time in the middle. Him giving a good start to the Proteas will be key to their chances of winning.

2. Tabraiz Shamsi – The left-arm spinner has had a decent outing. Shamsi has played just three games in the tournament so far, and has scalped seven wickets in the process. The last time he played in Kolkata against India, he kept things tight while not giving any looseners to the middle-order. Thus, Bavuma & Co. will depend heavily on the orthodox bowler when he takes the field on Thursday.

3. Rassie van der Dussen – Rassie van der Dussen has been the second most successful batter for South Africa after de Kock. The No. 3 batter has two hundreds and as many fifties in the quadrennial event so far, while batting in nine matches so far. His right-hand bat has contributed 442 runs for the Proteas at an impressive average of 55.25. Thus, a lot of eyes will be on the ace batter in the clash at the Eden.
