In women’s cricket, Australia happen to be the mightiest of all teams, courtesy the number of World Cups across all formats that they have won over the years, ever since the country’s women started playing international cricket. Even their stats and records speak volumes of the amount of talent each and every player possesses to be the biggest threat to any team around the world in an ICC event.

And in this article, we will reminisce one of Australia’s such moments on the big stage, as on this day back in 2013, Australia defeated the West Indies by a huge margin of 114 runs to claim their record sixth ICC Women’s World Cup title.

The tenth edition of the 50-over World Cup was played in India and the final was played at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Australia won the toss and opted to bat, and they made sure they made the most out of their batting, with Jess Duffin taking the initiative to anchor Australia’s total to a challenging 259/7, scoring a 75 off 76 deliveries, which earned her the Player of the Match award in the final.

For the West Indies, it was no doubt a daunting total, and Australia with the ball ensured the Women in Maroon never reached the target, as they ran over their batting line-up to bundle them out for just 145 on the board in 43.1 overs.

The clash is also remembered for Ellyse Perry, as with an injured ankle the all-rounder didn’t disappoint her team and scalped three crucial wickets to completely dismantle the West Indies in their chase. She finished with figures of 3/19.

Australia perhaps just love World Cup finals because going by their performances in every ICC event, they definitely reserve their utmost eye-catching performances for the summit-clashes, and make sure to have the last laugh.
