Jamaica Tallawahs won their third Caribbean Premier League title in 2022, when they defeated Barbados Royals in the final on October 1, 2022, at the Providence Stadium in Guyana by eight wickets.
Led by Rovman Powell, Jamaica finished fourth on the points table after the league stage with four wins, five losses, and one no-result in 10 games. They defeated Saint Lucia Kings in the Eliminator and Guyana Amazon Warriors in Qualifier 2 to make it to the summit clash.
Barbados put on a below-par score of 161/7 in their 20 overs on the back of a 40-ball 51 from Azam Khan. They were off to a flying start as the opening duo of Rahkeem Cornwall and Kyle Mayers amassed 63 runs in six overs. However, the innings lost momentum as it went on and credit should go to Fabian Allen and Nicholson Gordon, who finished with three wickets apiece.
In reply, Guyana would have hoped for a solid start from Brandon King, who entered the final as the second highest run-getter in the tournament. The stylish right-handed batter lost his opening partner Kennar Lewis off the fourth ball of the innings. However, King was confident in his abilities and assured in his choice of strokes as he remained unbeaten on 83 off 50 balls to take his team home with eight wickets in hand and 23 balls to spare.
Shamarh Brooks also contributed nicely with a 33-ball 47 and formed a crucial 86-run partnership off 58 balls with King. However, when the former was dismissed, Jamaica still needed 75 runs to win. Captain Rovman joined King and stitched a swashbuckling 75-run partnership off just 35 balls to help his team win in a canter. Interestingly, Rovman scored just 14 out of the 75-run partnership. Allen was awarded Player of the Match, while King, who finished as the highest run-getter in the tournament, was chosen as the Player of the Series.
