Tottenham Hotspur’s manager, Antonio Conte, may face an uncertain future after his outburst following their 3-3 draw against Southampton last weekend. The Italian coach came close to crossing a line by calling his players selfish and questioning their commitment to the club. His comments have prompted suggestions that the Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy, may take action against him before the end of the season.

Conte’s contract with the club expires this summer, and it remains to be seen whether the club will extend it. Spurs players have accepted responsibility for their poor performance. They understand that their performances have not been up to par, and they are ready to work with a new head coach next season.

Conte has clarified to the Spurs board that his comments were aimed purely at the players and not the owner or the chairman. Nevertheless, his comments have raised concerns among the club’s supporters, who are already frustrated by Tottenham’s poor performances in recent years.

The Italian coach also appeared to attack the club’s ownership, questioning why only the club and managers take responsibility for not winning while the players get “alibis”. Conte however later clarified that it was the players that the comments were aimed at and not the club hierarchy.

Experts think Conte’s job at Spurs is a lost cause now

Sky Sports’ Jamie Carragher believes that Conte wants to be sacked following his rant, while Jamie Redknapp feels that the Italian’s position is becoming untenable. However, Sky Sports’ Gary Neville thinks that the club should keep Conte and make him do his job.

Tottenham’s collapse at St Mary’s capped off a miserable March, in which they were dumped out of both the FA Cup and the Champions League, leaving them trophyless since 2008. Several players and staff are calling for former manager Mauricio Pochettino to be reinstated as club manager.

The players and staff are currently on a pre-scheduled two-day break, and they will return to the training ground on Tuesday, regardless of the result. So far, there has been no public reaction from the players in response to Conte’s comments, although Cristian Romero and Pedro Porro have posted on social media since the outburst.
