Dimitar Berbatov, the former striker for Manchester United, believes Brighton & Hove Albion will present a difficult Premier League test for his old team.
The Red Devils last Premier League match was on September 3, shortly before the international break, when they suffered a 3-1 setback against Arsenal. They have two victories from four games and are now sitting in 11th position, six points behind league leaders Manchester City.
Brighton, meanwhile, has won three of their last four games and is having another outstanding domestic season. They have only lost once, which was against West Ham United, while they have prevailed in both of their league away games. The Potters sit sixth in the standings with nine points, three points behind City.
However, Dimitar Berbatov said in his Metro column that United needed to exercise caution to avoid making another mistake. He wrote, “Man United have suffered against Brighton before. If they are not careful, they will suffer again. I like the way Brighton play football, with their passing and their use of space.”
The former striker added that, “Yes, sometimes, they get beaten like against West Ham where they have loads of possession, lots of shots and still lose. Man United need to wake up, as before you know it, the season will be nearly over.”
The Bulgarian concluded that his previous team will win 3-2. He said, “They need to get points on the board. I think United will win, but if they don’t, the gap with the top teams will get too big. Prediction: 3-2.”
Manchester United absolutely needs a victory after the Arsenal loss in order to keep from slipping down the standings. They do, however, have a large number of absentees from the match against Brighton for a variety of reasons.
After assault charges, winger Antony was granted permission to take a leave of absence. Due to disciplinary difficulties, Jadon Sancho, another winger, trains apart from the Manchester United squad, because of his bust up with the manager Erik Ten Hag.
Mason Mount, a midfielder, and Raphael Varane, a defender, are both out injured. As if that weren’t enough, recently signed Sofyan Amrabat won’t make his debut against Brighton since he is not fully ready.
