Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has spoken out about the situation of his teammate Eden Hazard, saying that he does not have any sympathy for the Belgian winger’s lack of playing time this season. Hazard has struggled to make an impact at the Spanish giants since his £130 million move from Chelsea in 2019, with injuries and poor form hampering his progress.

Speaking to Eleven Sports, Kroos said that while he understands the difficult situation Hazard finds himself in, he does not believe that pity has a place in football. “I don’t feel sorry for anyone in football. In the end, everyone is partly responsible for their own situation,” he said. “I know Eden very well. We are often together. But I feel sorry for people who are very, very bad, and Eden is not one of them.”

Kroos went on to say that he believes Hazard’s lack of playing time is a result of his own performances and that it is up to the player to take responsibility for his situation. “It’s not just about money. I don’t believe Eden has a bad life. You can feel sorry for people who have it much worse than Eden,” he said.

I’m here to win games – Carlo Ancelotti

Hazard has started just three games for Real Madrid this season and has admitted that he rarely speaks to manager Carlo Ancelotti. Ancelotti, for his part, has said that he picks his starting eleven based on performance rather than age or salary. “I’m not here to give each player minutes, I’m here to win games. I put the best starting eleven to win games,” he said.

Despite his lack of playing time, Hazard remains a highly-regarded player and is widely considered to be one of the most talented wingers in the world. His struggles at Real Madrid have led to speculation that he may be sold at the end of the season, with a number of top European clubs said to be interested in signing him.

In the end, it is up to Hazard to prove himself on the pitch and earn a place in Ancelotti’s starting eleven. Whether he will be able to do so remains to be seen, but with his talent and experience, there is no doubt that he has the potential to be a key player for Real Madrid in the future.
