The Women’s Kabaddi League (WKL) is set to make its debut in Dubai, marking a significant milestone for the sport. Organized by APS Sports, this league aims to revolutionize women’s kabaddi and promote women’s empowerment through sports. With kabaddi being the third most popular sport in India, the introduction of a women’s league is a testament to its growing recognition worldwide.

The WKL is scheduled to commence on June 16 and will see the participation of over 120 talented women players. These players will have the opportunity to showcase their skills and compete at a high level. The league has attracted the attention of prominent coaches from around the world, including both national and international level coaches who will provide guidance and mentorship to the players.

Kabaddi, a sport that originated in Punjab and Tamil Nadu, has gained immense popularity across the globe. Apart from India, countries like Canada, Pakistan, and Iran have embraced kabaddi as well. The expansion of the sport to the United Arab Emirates with the organization of the first-ever Mahila Kabaddi League in Dubai reflects its global appeal.

The league will feature eight teams, each determined to give their best and provide tough competition. The participating teams include Rajasthan Raiders, Delhi Dynamites, Gujarat Angels, Great Marathas, Haryana Hustlers, Punjab Panthers, Uma Kolkata, and Bengaluru Hawks. Notably, the league will also witness the talents of senior national kabaddi players Harvinder Kaur and Moti Chandan, who will be showcasing their skills during the matches.

The league will follow a round-robin format and is scheduled to run from June 16 to June 27. The prestigious ‘Shabab Al Ahli’ sports club has been selected as the host venue for the league, adding to the excitement and grandeur of the event.

To build the teams, an auction was conducted where players were bid for by the participating franchises. The auction saw the highest bid reaching a remarkable Rs 33 lakh. Pradeep Kumar Nehra, the CEO of the Women’s Kabaddi League, expressed the league’s commitment to promoting women’s empowerment and enhancing their sports skills. The league has garnered support from renowned personalities in the world of kabaddi, including international players such as Pradeep Narwal, Sandeep Narwal, Maninder Singh, and Surendra Nada.
