Jammu and Kashmir team leaves for the Senior National Championships for Women

The J&K UT Kabaddi team departed today in order to compete in the 69th Senior National Kabaddi Championship for Women, which will be held in Mahendergarh, Haryana, from March 23 to 26.

Surinder Mohan Gupta, the Association’s general secretary, revealed it. The J&K Amateur Kabaddi Association and J&K Sports Council will serve as the team’s sponsors.

In the presence of Dr. Jagandeep Singh, Physiotherapist of the Sports Council, Surinder Mohan, General Secretary, Ajay Gupta, in-charge, Kabaddi Stadium, Kajal Devi, Kabaddi Coach, Archana Kaushal, and Joginder Kumar of the Sports Council, Ashok Singh, Divisional Sports Officer, Jammu distributed sports kits to the handpicked players.

The strong favourites for the championship once again will be the Railways side which will receive assistance from Sonali Shingate, Payal Chowdhury, and Pooja Narwal in the area of raiding. Pinky Roy, an all-around player, will be essential in offering the team’s side some much-needed balance. Ritu Negi and Ritu Kumari will be in charge of the team’s corner defence on defence.

Throughout the previous 35 years, the women’s team for Indian Railways has won 33 national championships. They will therefore compete as heavy favourites to retain their title. The Indian women’s Kabaddi team’s international representatives Sonali Shingate, Captain Payel Chowdhury, Ritu Negi, and Ritu Kumari will be aiming to offer their experience to the Railways side once more.

What is the importance of the Senior National Kabaddi Championships for Women?

Prior to the Asian Games to be held later the year, competitors will have the chance to make a good impression on the selectors in the national women’s kabaddi championship in 2023.

In the championship game that was held in the last edition in 2022, Himachal Pradesh defeated the 33-time champions Indian Railways 33-31 to take home the title in Charkhi Dadri, Haryana.

In the semi-final, Indian Railways defeated Rajasthan to win 41-17, and Haryana were eliminated after falling to Himachal Pradesh by a score of 35-32.
