Following an eight-year hiatus, the giant event known in the form of the Men’s Kabaddi World Cup is scheduled to return in 2024. India won all three prior competitions, which took place in 2004 (the first), 2007 (the second), and 2016 (the third). The first women’s Kabaddi World Cup took place in India in 2016.

According to rumours, Wolverhampton is putting in a proposal to host the 2024 Kabaddi World Cup. The World Cup would be staged outside of India for the very first time if it were to win the bid.

After making it to the Bangabandhu Cup final, Bangladesh and Chinese Taipei became the first group of teams to qualify for the World Cup. Bangladesh hosted the third Bangabandhu Cup, which it won by defeating Chinese Taipei for the third time in a row. The event had 12 teams in all, out of which Bangladesh and Chinese Taipei prevailed to qualify for the World Cup.

What happened at the previous World Cup in India in 2016?

India, the defending champion, defeated Iran 38–29 to win the World Cup for a record third time. The World Cup’s first edition took place in Mumbai in 2004, while the second one was hosted in India’s Pavel in 2007. India has been a strong force on the international circuit and has won all three editions’ final matches against Iran.

The third edition was held In Ahmedabad in 2016, and India got off to a rough start by succumbing to South Korea during the group round. The host then successfully recovered and went on to capture the championship.

In a few weeks, the Senior National Kabaddi Championships will get underway, and all of the participants will be looking to make a name for themselves before the Asian Games.
