Players will be chosen by Tamil Thalaivas over the course of a three-day selection process in the Kanniyakumari region for the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) season. The Alathangarai Kabaddi Club (AZ) will host the trials for players between the ages of 18 and 22 from May 22 to May 24.
On the first day, the selection will get underway at 9 am. Ashan Kumar, the head coach of the Thalaivas who has a contract that lasts through 2025, commented on the trials. He said, “Tamil Nadu is passionate about kabaddi and the players want to take up the sport professionally due to the cultural connection and the love they have for it. Through this trials, we want to reach out to such youngsters, who can potentially grow into big talent in the future.”
Tamil Thalaivas CEO Shushen Vashishth spoke about how the franchise believes in young talent. He said: “Our team has been a platform for many youngsters to come and perform over the years. We attempt to reach out to raw talent who are waiting to be unearthed.”
How did the Tamil Thalaivas perform in the Pro Kabaddi League season 9?
Tamil Thalaivas’ streak of being in the bottom two of the points standings was broken by making the playoffs. Ashan Kumar, the franchise’s new coach, led the team to great success as they came close to making the championship game.
The Tamil Thalaivas’ roster had notable players which included the likes of Surjeet Singh, Manjeet Dahiya, and K Prapanjan in the previous campaign. However, they were just ahead of the Telugu Titans for 11th place in the standings. In preparation for PKL 9, the Thalaivas underwent significant roster changes.
They dropped their top players from the previous season and spent 2.26 crore to get Pawan Sehrawat, the best raider in the league. Pawan suffered an injury in the first game, which was unfortunate for the Thalaivas because he had to miss the rest of the games.
