Top five all-time greatest defenders in Pro Kabaddi League

Kabaddi has been a wonderful indigenous sport in India’s sporting history for the past few decades. The sport which has been making waves has recently been given a shot in the arm with the inception of the Pro Kabaddi league. It was launched in 2014 and has been a big hit amongst fans ever since the league first hit screens. 

The advantage of a sport like Kabaddi is that its short duration and the ability to get fast results have added a new set of fans who have been totally hooked up to the league and have been enjoying it. It has become a wonderful sport to play and a new avenue to explore for sports fans. Players from Korea, Iran and other places have come to India and proved themselves as worthy overseas players. 

5. Surjeet Singh– Surjeet Singh is one of the best defenders to play in the Pro Kabaddi League. His speciality is that he is a right-cover defender. His signature move is the dash and the block that he uses to great effect on the mat. He has scored 348 tackle points in 127 games that he has played. He last played for the Telugu Titans in 2022. 

4. Girish Maruti Ernak– Girish Maruti Ernak is a left-corner defender. He last played for the Bengal Warriors in 2022. He has made 359 tackle points in 143 games played. His signature move is the dash which he specialises in. He was born in Maharashtra and his early talent of Kabaddi was recognised by a PT Teacher. There has been no turning back since then. 

3. Sandeep Narwal– Sandeep Narwal is one of the household names in Indian Kabaddi. Across all seasons he has scored 360 tackle points from 156 games. His signature move is the block. He has a solid build with a rock-hard physique. A muscular figure like Sandeep is very hard for any raider to get past. In his first PKL season, he had 119 points. 

2. Manjeet Chillar– Manjeet Chillar has scored 391 tackle points in the 132 games that he has played. He has played for various teams in the PKL and the government of India has conferred on him the Arjuna Award for his outstanding work in the sport of Kabaddi. He is currently the assistant coach of Telugu Titans. 

1. Fazel Atrachali – Fazel Atrachali In the 146 matches he has played has made 424 tackle points. The captain of Iran has been one of the greatest overseas players in the PKL. He is a left-corner defender. He has also led in the PKL and has been one of the most successful captains in PKL history. His signature move is the back hold which he keeps showcasing in Kabaddi.
