On Thursday, April 27, Rajasthan Royals defeated Chennai Super Kings by 32 runs in the 37th match of the 2023 Indian Premier League at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. With this victory, RR climbed to the top spot of the IPL 2023 points table with 10 points. Meanwhile, the four-time IPL champions who also have 10 points are now placed third in the points table.
After winning the toss, RR skipper Sanju Samson decided to bat first. Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal hammered a stunning half-century as RR posted 202 in 20 overs, losing five wickets. The 29-year-old scored 77 runs from 43 deliveries, including eight boundaries and four maximums.
CSK bowlers failed to perform well with the ball early on as RR openers Jaiswal and Jos Buttler produced a 50-run partnership in the fifth over and RR were 64/0 after the powerplay. Ravindra Jadeja came for the attack as CSK found their first breakthrough, breaking the opening stand by removing Buttler for 27 runs. Later, Tushar Deshpande struck twice as he dismissed Sanju Samson (17) and Jaiswal.
During the chase, CSK batters struggled with the bat as they were restricted to 170/6 in 20 overs. CSK openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway produced a solid start for the four-time champions. However, Adam Zampa ended Conway’s stay in the powerplay. Gaikwad, however, attempted to keep the momentum but was dismissed by Zampa for 47 runs.
Later, Ravichandran Ashwin struck twice, dismissing Ajinkya Rahane (15) and Ambati Rayudu for a two-ball duck. However, CSK’s middle-order batters Shivam Dube (52 off 33) and Moeen Ali (23) produced a quick 50-run partnership to keep CSK’s hopes alive. However, Zampa once again came for the attack and dismissed the English all-rounder ending all hopes of visitors and they remained 32 runs short of the target.
