Following a comprehensive win against RCB, Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians (MI) are all set to host defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) for their next assignment. The two heavyweights will lock horns in match 57 of the ongoing IPL 2023 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on Friday, May 12.
The five-time winners relished a brilliant outing in their previous match against Bangalore, as they scripted a third successful 200-plus chase of their ongoing campaign. Notably, it was Suryakumar Yadav’s blitzkrieg which blew away the visiting team to help clinch the two points.
Suryakumar cracked 83 off mere 35 balls which featured six maximums and seven boundaries at a stunning strike rate of 237.14. In addition to this, he raised a 140-run stand with Nehal Wadhera, who scored an unbeaten 52 of 34 balls to steer the side to victory.
On the other hand, Hardik Pandya and Co. brushed aside Lucknow Super Giants by 56 runs to sit on the top of the points table. Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill played instrumental knocks as the pair got 81 and an unbeaten 94 runs, respectively to post 227 runs.
Seasoned pacer Mohit Sharma then took the onus and returned a magnificent four-wicket haul in his four overs for 29 runs. Despite some fight from the Lucknow top order, Gujarat comfortably secured the two points.
As Mumbai have the home advantage, they will be vying to make the most of the conditions and come all guns blazing to beat Gujarat. However, Titans will be gunning to do a double over Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians as the latter lost by 55 runs in the first meeting this season.
Speaking about their head-to-head records, the two franchises have locked horns just twice in the top-tier league. While Mumbai won the first meeting, Gujarat stamped their authority in the most recent outing. An exciting clash awaits as both teams will look to play some scintillating cricket and obtain a favourable result.
