Defending champions Gujarat Titans will host Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 62nd match of the 2023 Indian Premier League at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The Hardik Pandya-led side are coming off a terrible 27-run loss at the hands of five-time champions Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 12. SRH, on the other hand, lost to Lucknow Super Giants in their previous encounter at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
In the Titans’ previous match, skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and invited Mumbai to bat first. The decision backfired on the visitors as Mumbai set a 219-run target with Suryakumar Yadav (103 off 49) scoring a century. Meanwhile, Rashid Khan claimed a four-wicket haul and conceded 30 runs in his four-over spell.
During the chase, the Afghan all-rounder played a crucial knock, scoring an unbeaten 79 off 32. However, his efforts went in vain as GT were restricted to 191/8 in 20 overs.
Meanwhile, in SRH’s match, skipper Aiden Markram won the toss and opted to bat first. Wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen (47) and all-rounder Abdul Samad (37*) made a significant partnership as SRH posted 182 runs in 20 overs. During the second innings, SRH bowlers failed to impress with the ball as they were handed a seven-wicket defeat. Glenn Phillips, Mayank Markande, and Abhishek Sharma made one scalp each.
The Titans are currently at the top position on the IPL 2023 points table with 16 points, having won eight of their 12 matches. SRH, on the other hand, currently sit second from the bottom in the IPL 2023 points table. They will be eliminated from the IPL 2023 playoff race if they suffer a defeat against Hardik Pandya and Co.
GT and SRH have met twice, with each team winning one match. Both sides will probably field the same lineup as in the last game.
