Gujarat Titans locked horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 62nd match of the 2023 Indian Premier League at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, on Monday, May 15. The defending champions defeated SRH by 34 runs and sealed their place in the IPL 2023 playoffs.
SRH skipper Aiden Markram won the toss and invited GT to bat first. However, their decision backfired as GT posted a total of 188 in 20 overs, thanks to Shubman Gill’s century.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar provided SRH with an early breakthrough as he dismissed Wriddhiman Saha for a duck in the very first over of GT’s innings. Meanwhile, Sai Sudharsan joined Shubman Gill and produced a significant 147-run partnership for the second wicket.
After Gill scored a half-century, Marco Jansen struck and removed Sudharsan for 47 runs. Meanwhile, Gill continued his power-hitting and scored his maiden IPL century.
Following that Bhuvneshwar scalped two wickets, removing Gill (101 off 58) and Rashid Khan on back-to-back deliveries. On the next ball, Noor Ahmad was run out by Bhuvneshwar.
During SRH’s chase, Mohammed Shami provided an early breakthrough for GT, dismissing opener Anmolpreet Singh in the first over and Yash Dayal soon removed Abhishek Sharma. The SRH batters struggled with the bat as they were 45/4 at the end of the powerplay.
Meanwhile, wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen led the charge for SRH and provided a sigh of hope for the visiting side. He scored 64 off 44 balls before being dismissed by Shami. Shami and Mohit Sharma claimed a four-wicket haul as GT restricted SRH to 154/9 in 20 overs.

Shubman Gill led the charge for GT as he scored his maiden century in the IPL. The young opener smashed 101 off 58 balls before being dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. His knock was studded with 13 fours and one six.
Best bowler of the match
Veteran bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar claimed a five-wicket haul in SRH’s clash against GT. He dismissed GT opener Wriddhiman Saha, Gill, Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, and Mohammed Shami.
What’s next for both teams?
SRH will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in their upcoming fixture at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad on May 18. GT, on the other hand, will also lock horns with RCB on May 21 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
