MS Dhoni Auction
Ever since the advent of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Chennai Super Kings have been one of the most dominant sides in the tournament’s history. Winning four titles in 15 years, their success could be credited to one man, and he is none other than the legendary skipper, MS Dhoni.
The 41-year-old was roped in by Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2008 auction for $1.5 million, which made him the most expensive player of the inaugural auction. Chennai’s decision to go all out for the Indian skipper proved to be one of the best decisions for the side, as under his leadership, the franchise has seen massive success.
Becoming a fan favourite at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Dhoni has led Chennai to 10 IPL finals and won four of them. Dhoni being bought by Chennai at the IPL 2008 auction became one of the biggest moments of the season, and the IPL auctioneer that sold him recently took to Twitter to recall the legendary moment.
The IPL auctioneer, Richard Madley, was the one who sold Dhoni off to Chennai Super Kings back in 2008. Taking to Twitter, he branded it a historic moment, shared a picture of Dhoni’s autograph for his son, and even wished him luck in the upcoming IPL 2023 final.
“Selling #Dhoni in the first #IPL auction was a career highlight, & meeting him was very special. He signed this for my son, @harrymadley6. Good luck today,” Richard Madley tweeted.
Chennai Super Kings take on Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023 final
With the stage of the IPL 2023 final set, the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings take on the defending champions Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 28.
Chennai previously defeated Gujarat in Qualifier 1 of the tournament in Chepauk on May 23, and the four-time champions would be keen on replicating the same result in the summit clash against the Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat as well.
