The final of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 will feature a clash between the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings and the Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 28.
In the biggest match of the season, both Gujarat and Chennai will be keen on getting their hands on the coveted title. The competition kicked off with both teams taking each other on in the season opener, and now it will end with Hardik Pandya and MS Dhoni facing each other for the trophy.
Being arguably one of the biggest cricket leagues in the world, the IPL will also offer a whopping cash prize for the winner of the tournament. Back when Rajasthan Royals won the inaugural IPL in 2008, the side won INR 4.8 crore, with the runners-up getting INR 2.4 crore.
However, times have drastically changed since then. With the summit clash of the 16th edition right around the corner, there have been several reports that the winner of the tournament will receive four times the amount as compared to in 2008.
Many reports have emerged that state the winner of the IPL 2023 will receive INR 20 crore, whereas the runner-up will receive INR 13 crore. It was also reported that the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has set aside a total of INR 46.5 crore for the competition.
Furthermore, the same prize money for the competition has been set since 2016, with the runners-up getting INR 11 crore until 2019, before it was revised to INR 13 crore in 2021.
Furthermore, apart from the team prizes, there will be several prizes for the IPL Orange cap, Purple cap, and Emerging Player of the Tournament award winners as well.
The winners of the Orange and Purple caps will reportedly receive INR 15 lakh each, with the Emerging Player of the Tournament winning INR 20 lakh. Furthermore, the Most Valuable Player Award winner of 2023 will receive INR 12 lakh.
