Ireland registered 97 runs at the end of Day 2, thereby trailing by 255 runs against England in the One-off Test at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. Notably, England scored 524 runs for the loss of four wickets in their first innings before declaring on Day 2.

At the end of play on Day 1, the Three Lions concluded with a score of 152 runs and extended their domination right from the start of Day 2. Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope combined to raise a marvellous 252-run partnership which kept the home side in the driver’s seat.

While Duckett registered 182 off 178 balls featuring 24 boundaries and one six, Pope carved out a majestic double-hundred, getting 22 fours and three sixes in his 208-ball 205. England were further aided by Test specialist Joe Root’s breezy half-century as he scored 56 off 59 balls.

England eventually posted a humongous 524 runs before declaring their innings.

In Ireland’s second innings, the 25-year-old Josh Tongue, who made his debut in the One-off Test, landed the early blows as he got the scalps of Peter Moor and skipper Andy Balbirnie, reducing Ireland to 18/2 in under eight overs of the third innings. Ireland endured another blow on the fifth ball of the ninth over as James McCollum headed back to the dugout retired hurt after twisting his right ankle while facing Tongue.

In the middle order, Harry Tector took the onus of playing a rather delicate knock in order to bail his side out of the precarious scenario. He concluded the day’s play with an unbeaten 33 off 55 balls with three fours and one six to his account. The Irish side wrapped up Day 2 with a score of 97 runs for the loss of three wickets with Tector and Lorcan Tucker still on the crease.
