A scintillating Test saw a tremendous end as Australia pulled off a thrilling two-wicket win to shut the Bazball craze at Edgbaston. After declaring their innings on 393 runs on Day 1, there were doubts regarding England’s bold move as some fans on Twitter also called it overconfidence. Did that bite the team in the end? Possibly so.

After England’s positive start with the bat, their bowlers too were fantastic but their brilliance lasted only for one session. Usman Khawaja, Travis Head and Alex Carey then took control of the situation as the visiting team posted 385 runs on board in the first innings – which is just seven runs behind that of England.

In the second innings, the Ben Stokes-led side suffered with the bat but eventually posted 273 runs, setting up a target of 280 runs. Now, even though it looked pretty chasable but Australia once again lost three quick wickets in the form of David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne and Steven Smith. Nevertheless, the centurion of the first innings, Usman Khawaja once again stepped up and set the platform for the team.

However, following his dismissal, it was once thought to be England’s game to lose but the way Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon batted towards the end, showed Australia’s strength with the bat and also proved how dedicated they are to winning the ongoing Ashes series as well. Meanwhile, after the completion of the match, England skipper Ben Stokes was in agony and stated that the morale is pretty down in the dressing room as his teammates didn’t imagine losing the game.

On the other hand, Australia became the third team to beat England after their Bazball revolution but it needs to be seen if Pat Cummins and company can become the first team to defeat England in a Test series after the massive change. Tick-tock, the cricketing world can’t wait for the second Test at the iconic Lord’s.
