Kabaddi in India have certainly grown from strength to strength in recent times with the beginning of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL). The people or fans who were less aware became more aware of the sport as well as at the same time it was also helpful in attracting and introducing more new fans to the game.
There have been multiple facilities and infrastructures have been constructed all over the nation for supporting the game of Kabaddi even more. In a recent instance in Madurai, where the kabaddi players had been requesting the Corporation for a dedicated Kabaddi ground so that it can cater to various Kabaddi clubs such as Sellur as well as the Mathichayam area. And hence, responding to the request of the kabaddi players in the city, the commissioner of the corporation K J Praveen Kumar as well as corporation officials conducted an inspection of nearly majorly half of an acre of land which was present in Ward 29 of Sellur and Mathichayam on Wednesday.
Previously, the Vaigai riverbed and its banks were where kabaddi players would conduct their competitions. However, access to the river bank was limited after the company built a retaining wall along the Vaigai river bank. Due to this, requests were made of the local representative and officials for the provision of a kabaddi-specific field. According to a senior corporate official, efforts are now being made to find a suitable location for the kabaddi pitch that will serve the demands of both players and young spectators in and near Sellur.
The Asian Kabaddi Championship 2023 will be played in Busan, South Korea from June 27 to June 30. The most successful team in the history of the tournament has eventually found their place in the Finals of the tournament and will be looking to win the title for the eighth time in a row. The defending champions will be facing the spirited Iran side in the tournament’s final which will be played on June 30. The Indian Kabaddi team is still unbeaten in the competition.
