The list of retained players in the ‘Elite Retained Players’, ‘Retained Young Players’, and ‘Existing New Young Players’ categories were announced by the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) on Monday, August 7. Notably, the premier Kabaddi league of the country is all set to take a big step in its history with the tenth season forthcoming. As such, the participating franchises are all set to rebuild their squad at the players’ auction to be held in India’s financial capital Mumbai on the 8th and 9th of September, 2023.
Notably, a total of 84 players have been retained by the franchises across the three aforementioned categories. The breakdown accounts for 22 players from the Elite Retained Players (ERP) category, 24 in the Retained Young Players (RYP) category, and 38 in the Existing New Young Players (ENYP) category. As a result, non-retained players that include star names like Pawan Sehrawat and Vikash Kandola are all set to go under the hammer in the consequential players’ auction next month.
PKL Season 10 promises to be ‘electrifying and unforgettable’: League Commissioner Anupam Goswami
“With an exceptional core group of players retained across all teams, Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 already promises to be a great contest. At the same time, the Pro Kabaddi Season X Player Auction too promises to be an absolutely riveting affair, given the return of several talented athletes to the auction pool and the fact that some of the teams will use this opportunity to rebuild and strengthen their squads. Together, these elements pave the way for an electrifying and unforgettable Season 10 for the Pro Kabaddi League,” said Anupam Goswami, Head Sports Leagues’ Mashal Sports and League Commissioner of the Pro Kabaddi League.
The list of retained players reveals that there is a fine balance between young guns and experienced horses, thanks to the three-category system. Among the retained players a few key names are the PKL legend Pardeep Narwal (U.P Yoddhas), Aslam Mustafa Inamdar (Puneri Paltan), and the previous season’s most valuable player, Arjun Deshwal (Jaipur Pink Panthers).
