Titas Sadhu, a young prodigy from West Bengal, has made a significant impact in securing the first Asian Games Gold Medal for the Indian Women’s team in 2023. Her recent remarkable performance in the U-19 T20 World Cup final match in South Africa, where she took two wickets for six runs, earned her the well-deserved title of Player of the Match. Throughout that tournament, she consistently showcased her talent by taking a total of six wickets.
Titas made her debut for the Indian Team in the final of the Asian Games 2023 against Sri Lanka. In an exceptional spell of four overs, she took three wickets, conceding just six runs. Her outstanding contribution helped India defend their small target and secure the first Asian Games Gold Medal.
Titas’ journey to success has not been an easy one. Five years ago, nobody would have predicted that she would become a member of the Indian Cricket Team. Despite excelling academically with a remarkable 93% score in her school leaving exams and being skilled in sprinting and swimming, Titas chose to pursue cricket as her passion. Her father, Ranadeep Sadhu, a former athlete who now runs a cricket academy in Hoogly, has been a significant influence on her cricketing career.
Titas’ introduction to cricket occurred when she was a child, assisting her father with scorekeeping at their family-owned ancestral cricket club. One rainy day, her father casually asked her to bowl, and Titas immediately displayed her talent.
At the age of 13, she attempted to join the State trials but was initially rejected. However, this setback did not deter Titas; instead, it fueled her determination. She continued to work hard and develop her skills, eventually catching the attention of selectors and earning a spot on the senior Bengal team at just 16 years old.
Since then, Titas has never looked back. Her exceptional bowling skills have consistently impressed and garnered attention. Additionally, she has proven herself to be a valuable asset with the bat.
