After losing the ODI and T20I series against arch-rivals England, Australia will begin their summer with a three-match T20I series against West Indies. The first two matches of the series will be played in North Sydney Oval while Allan Bordar Field will host the third match of the series.
Meanwhile, under the leadership of Hayley Matthews, the Women in Maroon have done reasonably well, winning the T20I series against Ireland earlier in the year. However, against Australia, it might prove to be a difficult task.
On the other hand, Meg Lanning has opted out of the series and hence, Alyssa Healy will continue to lead the team. She recently expressed her feelings regarding the England series and stated that the team has learned a lot from the summer and will be applying the same in the upcoming Australia summer.
So, who are the three cricketers who can make a difference in the upcoming series? Let’s dissect:
3. Beth Mooney
The destructive Beth Mooney can wreak havoc against the West Indies. However, her record in T20Is against the Caribbeans isn’t that great. Hence, the opener will eye to change that in the upcoming series. Notably, she has represented Australia in 86 T20Is so far, scoring 2465 runs in total.
2. Hayley Matthews
West Indies skipper Hayley Matthews is currently the most important player in the squad. She has been a force to reckon with and will be extremely vital in the series. Notably, she has represented the West Indies in 85 T20Is and has scored 1716 runs in the process. She also has 86 wickets to her name in the shortest format.
1. Ashleigh Gardner
Ashleigh Gardner is currently the number-one ranked T20I cricketer in the world. She has been incredible in the shortest format and will aim to continue in the same fashion. Overall, she has played 76 T20I matches and has scored 1248 runs and has 55 wickets to her name.
