Game 8 of the ongoing WBBL (Women’s Big Bash League) 2023 will feature a clash between Melbourne Stars and Adelaide Strikers at the Junction Oval in Melbourne on Tuesday, October 24. Stars will be coming into the game after a loss in their previous clash against Melbourne Renegades.
Batting first Renegades posted a total of 167 runs on the board in the first innings against Stars. Anesu Mushangwe, Georgia Adams, and Danielle Gibson were the only wicket takers for Stars in the first innings with one wicket each. Aiming to chase down the target down, Stars failed to capitalise. Openers Laura Wolvaardt and Katie Mack were sent packing for 14 and three runs, respectively.
Skipper Tahlia McGrath was the highest run getter with 31 runs. However, the rest of the batting order could not amount to much as Stars were bundled out for just 86 runs, losing the game by 81 runs.
On the other hand, Adelaide Strikers played their last game against Melbourne Stars women as well. The last time both sides faced off against each other was in the fourth game of the tournament, Strikers came in to bat first and put in a brilliant performance. Katie Mack and Wolvaardt scored 86 and 47 runs, respectively.
With skipper McGrath adding 34* runs to her name, Strikers posted a total of 177 runs on the board in the first innings. Stars’ Sophie Day was the only wicket taker with three wickets to her name.
Aiming to chase down the target, Strikers put forth a bowling performance for the ages. Megan Schutt and Amanda-Jade Wellington took three wickets each with Anesu Mushangwe and Tahlia McGrath striking twice each.
As for Stars, Sophia Dunkley was the highest run getter with nine runs to her name as the side was bundled out for just 29 runs, losing the game by 148 runs.
