In the first semifinal of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, India triumphed over the Black Caps, securing their spot in the final. In the match, India won the toss and scored 397 runs in their allocated 50 overs after opting to bat first. Indian bowlers then showcased their prowess and bundled out the Kiwis for just 327 to secure a big 70-run victory for the team.
Renowned commentator and former cricketer, Aakash Chopra didn’t hold back his admiration for Rohit Sharma, the skipper leading from the front. Talking about the match, Chopra said that the good captain needs to have good luck along with skills. He further said that Goddes is kind to Rohit and has put this 2023 World Cup against his name.
“The discussion was that you should win the toss and bat first, and it happened. A good captain is not one who has a lot of skills, but one who is lucky as well, and Rohit has that luck. Devi (goddess) is kind to him, she has put this World Cup against his name,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
Rohit is going to leave behind such a legacy as captain which the world will remember – Chopra
“In the last World Cup, he gave you a lot of individual fame, you struck five centuries but didn’t win the World Cup. You were not part of the World Cup team in 2011 but 2023 is your World Cup, Rohit. You are going to leave behind such a legacy as a captain which the world will remember,” Chopra added highlighting Rohit’s potential legacy.
Rohit Sharma’s on-field brilliance was evident in the match as he scored a quickfire 47 runs off just 29 balls with four fours and six sixes to set the tone for the other batters to come. Then Virat Kohi, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer all took full advantage of the great start to propel India to a mammoth total.
Indian team have won ten consecutive games in this marquee event and now are all set to face the winner of the second semifinal, being played between Australia and South Africa at the Eden Garden in Kolkata. The final match will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19.
