After an unsuccessful outing in the first ODI, South Africa will look to come back stronger. In order to keep the series well and truly alive, the Proteas will need to put up a victorious show on Tuesday, December 19 at Gqeberha. In order to do so, there are some players who will be key to the victory for the Aiden Makram-led side. Here are three players who will be the ones to watch out for.
1. Tony de Zorzi: The left-handed batter has been given the opportunity to fill Quinton de Kock’s void. De Zorzi will have a big role to play, as he’s key to providing a good start with the bat. In Johannesburg, he did show some intent to go big, but couldn’t quite convert his start into a significant one. But in the second game, he’ll be hopeful of going big.
2. Nandre Burger: Burger made his international debut in the first game at Wanderers. He did bowl well, and has shown signs of hitting the deck hard. With his ability to swing the ball both ways, he might have big boots to fill in the absence of mainstay pacers like Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi. Thus, there will be a lot of attention towards the youngster, and he’ll look to make it a memorable one.
3. David Miller: Miller is the most experienced batter in the South African line-up. His ability to play dynamic roles with the bat has increased his importance in the side. In the previous game, Miller, including other SA batters, fell prey to the Indian pacers. However, Miller will need to be watchful, as there’s a lot of weight on his shoulders to provide an excellent finish with the bat, and also anchor the innings early on.
