The Arun Jaitley Stadium witnessed a nail-biting finish as Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by a narrow margin of 4 runs in Match 40 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel sizzles with the bat
The Titans won the toss and elected to bowl first, putting the Capitals into bat. The Capitals’ innings started with a mix of cautious play and explosive strokes. Prithvi Shaw and Jake Fraser McGurk provided a steady start before Axar Patel took charge with a blistering knock of 66 runs off 43 deliveries, including 5 fours and 4 sixes.
DC skipper Rishabh Pant then showcased his power-hitting prowess with a magnificent 88 runs off just 43 balls, smashing 5 fours and an impressive 8 sixes. Contributions from other batters like Tristan Stubbs propelled the Capitals to a formidable total of 224/4 in their allotted 20 overs.
Sandeep Warrier impresses for Gujarat with the ball
Despite some early breakthroughs, the Titans’ bowling attack struggled to contain the Capitals’ onslaught. Sandeep Warrier emerged as the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 wickets for 15 runs in his 3 overs.
David Miller, Rashid Khan almost turn the tables
Chasing a challenging target, the Titans started aggressively with contributions from Wriddhiman Saha and Sai Sudharsan. However, it was David Miller‘s explosive innings of 55 runs off 23 balls that kept the Titans in the hunt. Rashid Khan and Sai Kishore also played handy cameos, but the Titans ultimately fell short by a narrow margin.
Kuldeep Yadav shines with the ball for DC
The Capitals’ bowlers faced a tough challenge defending their total but managed to keep the Titans under pressure throughout the innings. Rasikh Salam led the bowling attack with figures of 3 wickets for 44 runs in his 4 overs. Despite being a high-scoring clash, Kuldeep Yadav showed his class and conceded only 29 runs in 4 overs and took a couple of scalps.
