In the 46th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clashed with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Opting to bowl first, SRH conceded 212 runs in 20 overs as CSK put up an imposing total. CSK’s innings was anchored by standout performances from Ruturaj Gaikwad (98 off 54), Daryl Mitchell (52 off 32), and Shivam Dube (39 off 20).

In reply, SRH’s batting lineup struggled against CSK’s formidable bowling attack. Despite their promising form in previous matches, SRH batters faltered, with none managing to reach the fifty-run mark. SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma departed early, scoring 13 off 7 and 15 off 9, while Aiden Markram made 32 off 26 before being dismissed.

Heinrich Klaasen’s slow innings of 20 runs off 21 balls further hampered the chase, and eventually SRH lost the game by 78 runs.

CSK bowler Matheesha Pathirana showcased his calibre in the 11th over of SRH’s innings. On the 5th ball of his over, Pathirana’s unplayable delivery uprooted the middle stump and sent Markram packing. This brilliant yorker shocked the SRH batter and left fans in awe.

Pathirana’s performance in IPL 2024
