The England Men’s selection committee has revealed the lineup for the impending ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which will take place in the West Indies and USA, appointing Jos Buttler as the captain. Kicking off on June 1, the World Cup will see England face Scotland on June 4 in their first match, closely following the scheduled final of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

England’s T20 World Cup players to leave IPL 2024

Rob Key, the Managing Director of England Men’s Cricket, personally reached out to the chosen players for the World Cup squad to convey their selection. Furthermore, he made it clear to those involved in the IPL that they would not be available for the knockout stages, which are slated from May 21 to May 26. This timeframe coincides with the start of England’s series against Pakistan, commencing on May 22.

English players’ return will alter IPL teams dynamics

The ECB has declared that members of England’s T20 World Cup team won’t be able to participate in the IPL playoffs. They’re required to head back home for an upcoming four-match T20I series against Pakistan. This move is set to impact players like Buttler from Rajasthan Royals (RR), Philip Salt from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Moeen Ali from Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Additionally, other players managing commitments between the England World Cup squad and the IPL include Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, and Liam Livingstone, all playing for Punjab Kings (PBKS), along with Will Jacks and Reece Topley, who represent Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Both franchises have faced challenges this season and might need to win all remaining group fixtures to secure a spot in the playoffs.
