A controversial umpiring decision sparked a heated exchange during Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) vs Rajasthan Royals (RR) IPL 2024 encounter at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Travis Head Gets a Lifeline

The drama unfolded in the 15th over of the SRH innings. Facing a delivery from Avesh Khan outside off-stump, opening batter Travis Head attempted a risky shot, shuffling across and losing his balance in the process. Sanju Samson, behind the stumps, whipped the ball towards the wickets. Replays showed inconclusive evidence, with the on-field umpire referring the decision to the third Umpire Rohan Pandit. After a lengthy review, the TV Umpire ruled Head “Not Out,” leaving the Rajasthan Royals camp fuming.

Kumar Sangakkara Seeks Answers

The decision clearly upset the Rajasthan Royals Director of Cricket, Kumar Sangakkara. He was seen engaged in a heated conversation with the fourth umpire, clearly expressing his disapproval of the call. While the specifics of the conversation were not made public, Sangakkara’s body language indicated strong disagreement with the TV Umpire’s verdict.

Despite the controversial reprieve, Head’s stay at the crease proved short-lived. He was dismissed on the very next delivery, caught plumb in front by Avesh. While the dismissal offered some consolation to the Royals, the earlier ruling continued to be a talking point.
