Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) registered a vital win by a margin of 47 runs against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 62 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, held at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday (May 12), thus keeping their playoff aspirations intact. Setting a challenging target of 187/7, RCB’s bowlers dismantled DC’s batting lineup, restricting them to 140 runs, marking Axar Patel‘s debut as captain for DC with a defeat. Despite a valiant half-century from Axar, DC fell short in overcoming RCB’s formidable challenge.
Competitive total set by RCB
Batting first, RCB posted a competitive total of 187/7, led by a stellar half-century from Rajat Patidar. Alongside, Will Jacks contributed a crucial 43 runs, complementing Virat Kohli‘s explosive cameo of 27 off just 12 balls, which included three towering sixes. Fall of Jake Fraser-McGurk
During the run chase, Australian batter Jake Fraser-McGurk showcased his prowess for DC at the start, but his promising knock of 21 runs from 8 balls met an unfortunate end. He fell victim to a run-out at the non-striker’s end by Yash Dayal on the second ball of the third over. A shot played by Shai Hope directed the ball straight back to the bowler, whose contact with it resulted in the stumps at the non-striker’s end being shattered. Fraser-McGurk found himself out of his crease and consequently dismissed
Virat Kohli’s celebratory spirit
Following this crucial breakthrough, the ever charged-up Kohli, walked past Fraser-McGurk, aggressively celebrating the wicket alongside Lockie Ferguson. Kohli’s fierce celebration emphasized the significance of the dismissal, as DC lost their top-order batter early in the tricky chase, leaving them reeling at 24/3.
