Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin lit up the TNPL 2024 with a blistering innings for the Dindigul Dragons against the Chepauk Super Gillies in a rain-affected match in Coimbatore on Sunday, July 14. Ashwin, who has been opening the batting for Dindigul, unleashed his attacking prowess, scoring 45 runs off just 20 balls.

His innings was a masterclass in aggressive batting, featuring four sixes and three boundaries. Despite the Dragons’ disastrous start, with the team reduced to 3 for 3 in the second over, Ashwin counter-attacked brilliantly. His fearless approach and powerful hitting turned the tide, allowing Dindigul to post a competitive total of 64 for 6 in the seven-overs-per-side contest.

Ashwin’s knock goes in vain as Dindigul Dragons loses against Chepauk Super Gillies

Despite Ashwin’s heroics, the Dindigul Dragons could not defend their total. The Chepauk Super Gillies chased down the target in just 4.5 overs, led by an unbeaten partnership between Narayan Jagadeesan (32 off 14) and Baba Aparajith (31 off 14).

The Dragons’ bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught, resulting in a swift and emphatic victory for the Super Gillies. Notably, Ashwin’s earlier attempts in the tournament had not yielded significant scores, with just 5 and 6 runs against Trichy and Salem, respectively. However, his 45-run blitzkrieg in this match highlighted his capability as a dynamic opener, even if it couldn’t secure a win for his team.
